How to Translate Your Jira
By default, Catalan Translate for Jira comes with a base dictionary that includes some basic translations to provide users with an initial version of Jira in Catalan right from the start.
To begin translating your Jira, go to Apps -> Catalan Translate for Jira, and in the left-hand menu, select the “Pending” option. (If you haven’t configured the Addon yet, please follow these instructions).
In this tab, you will see all the words that are pending translation into Catalan. Translating to Catalan is as easy as finding the word you want to translate (in the Key column), typing the word you want to display instead in the Translation field, and adding that translation to the dictionary. Once this is done, the word moves to the Translated dictionary, which you can view in the “Translations” tab.
Remember to click the “Sync Dictionary” button to send this information to all users.

Don’t have anything to translate? Catalan Translate for Jira uses a Chrome or Edge extension to collect all the Jira texts that have not yet been translated. This functionality ensures that no text is forgotten in the translation process. The first time a translator accesses Catalan Translate for Jira, no content will appear for translation because no users have started using the extension yet. |
How to Update a Translation
In Catalan Translate for Jira, you may occasionally need to update an existing translation to improve accuracy or adjust the wording. The process is simple and can be done directly within the Translations tab, which holds all the words and phrases that have already been translated.
Here’s how to update a translation:
Go to the Translations Tab:
Start by navigating to Apps -> Catalan Translate for Jira, and in the left-hand menu, select the Translations tab. Here, you will see all the words and phrases that have already been translated into Catalan.
Find the Word or Phrase You Want to Update:
Browse through the list of translated terms or use the search function to find the specific word or phrase you want to update.
Edit the Translation:
Once you have located the translation you want to update, click on the translation field. This will allow you to modify the existing translation. Type in the new translation or make the necessary changes.
Save and Update:
After making the desired changes, make sure to click the Update Translation button to save the new version of the translation.
Sync the Dictionary:
Once you’ve updated the translation, it’s important to sync the dictionary across your organization. This ensures that all users will see the updated translation in their Jira interface. To do this, click the Sync Dictionary button.
By following these steps, you can easily ensure that all translations are up-to-date and accurate for all users across your Jira site.
Discarding Translations
As explained, Catalan for Jira collects as much information as possible for translation. This has advantages, such as the ability to fully customize the translation into Catalan, but also some drawbacks, like occasionally detecting strings we don’t want to translate, such as dates, symbols, etc.
To manage these cases, Catalan Translate for Jira offers an option to discard translations. When you go to the “Pending” tab, for each translation option, you have the choice to “Discard Translation.”
By performing this action, the “Key” to be translated is moved to the Discarded dictionary, making it easier to focus on translating the remaining words that you do want to translate.

Default dictionary
Once the add-on is installed and synchronized, we can start with the default dictionary by going to: Dictionary → Restore default dictionary:
...
This will create a basic translation for the customer portal.
Nota |
---|
It will only work if the user’s language is set to English; for other languages, you will need to create your own translations. |
You can also export and import a JSON dictionary.
After that, you need to manually sync using the 'Sync with Atlassian' button, or wait one hour for the automatic sync. This video shows the process for the default dictionary:

Make new translations
In the previous video, we showed that the customer portal is translated. However, for example, in the profile menu, 'Create a help center' is not translated. Let’s address this:
First, we need to activate detection mode by going to: Configuration → Enable detection:
...
Once it’s enabled, we go to the portal to find the text that is not translated. We need to make sure that the status is set to ON:
...
We reload the page and display the dropdown menu. The extension will detect the new text, and in the next automatic or manual sync, it will appear in Pending Translations.
...
Then, we enter the desired translation and click Save.
...
In the Translation menu, we will find the new translation, where we can update or discard it.
...
Now we can perform another sync to communicate with the extension, and we will find the text translated.

Please allow 2-3 minutes for the new translation to appear. This delay is to prevent overloading Jira with every new translation. |
